Hi FDS List Server:

I'm not sure who is is on the Fluorescence Detection System FDS mailing
list, so my apologies if I have already reached you.

You may be aware that Beckman has announced that they will no longer be
supporting the XL-A and XL-I after 2025.  Fortunately, the Absorbance
and Interference detectors have upgrade paths to the current version of
AUC made by Beckman.  Unfortunately, no such path now exists for the
FDS.  This creates the risk that as older AUCs are forced into
retirement that the FDS technology will follow.

Borries Demeler and Beckman are now exploring development of a
fluorescence detector for the contemporary Optima.  Encouragement from
the AUC community will help the project forward.  I have drafted a
letter of support (attached), that I ask you to customize, and send
onward.  Letters should be sent to Walter J. Mitchell,
WJMITCHELL at beckman.com.

I'll be happy to answer any questions.

Sincerely,
Glen
